A New Albuquerque Venue for Next Season!

This coming season, Música Antigua will be moving to a new location for our series performances in Albuquerque.  The new venue is St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, located at 5301 Ponderosa Ave NE, just east of San Mateo between Montgomery and Comanche (see the map on the reverse).  There is plenty of parking space available and we are excited about the space and the acoustics!  We hope you will enjoy hearing us in this new place.

Celebrating 30 Years Together

In 1978, six intrepid musicians decided to give a concert of music from Renaissance Spain.  The organizer and most intrepid of them all was John Truitt.  Little did he know that we would still be at it thirty years later!  To commemorate that event, the ensemble will present “Thirty Years–Already?” as the final concert of our 2007-2008 season.  John has graciously agreed to perform with us as a special guest, for old times’ sake.  We’ll be playing some of our favorite tunes from past performances.

Our Newest Member

In the absence of MaryAnn Shore, who is leaving this year to pursue a Performer’s Certificate in baroque oboe at Indiana University, Música Antigua will be joined by Ruth Helgeson.  Ruth performed this last season’s “Ecco la Primavera” concert with us and we enjoyed her musical contributions very much.

Ruth majored in music in the 1970's on the French horn at the University of Minnesota.  Longing for a more "intimate" musical experience, she taught herself to play the recorder and performed for seven years with Concentus Musicus of the Twin Cities, directed by Arthur Maud and more recently with Eglantine Consort (of the Twin Cities).  Always drawn to unique sounds, Ruth performed Central Javanese gamelan music with the Indonesian Performing Arts Association of Minnesota for ten years and was featured at a special Halloween performance in 2004, playing her theremin for Minnesota Public Radio's Morning Show.

Support Early Music in New Mexico!

Help Música Antigua continue its programming.  Our ticket sales cover only a portion of the cost of putting on our season’s concerts.  We need your support to enable us to keep our early music activities going. Música Antigua is a non-profit organization, and your generosity will be greatly appreciated!
