Subj:    Textbook Adoption Policy

The University of New Mexico Los Alamos Campus Bookstore strives to provide to its customers all the instructional material required to help them succeed in the post-secondary educational arena. The primary piece of instructional material is the textbook.

You, as an educator, decide which book or books you will use in your classes. I, as the bookstore manager, will do everything in my power to make that book available to your students.

To that end, the following Textbook Adoption Policy is established.

The Campus Bookstore will notify you, as a faculty member, of the due date for your textbook order for the following semester. The notification will take place via (1) the placement of a textbook order form in your mail box, (2) an e-mail to you, (3) signage in and around the UNM-Los Alamos mailroom, or (4) personal notification when possible.

Due dates for textbook orders are established in order to allow the campus bookstore time to do necessary research on titles, determine suppliers, and arrange for delivery of the requested book to this campus prior to the commencement of classes. This will also allow delivery to be accomplished at reduced cost to the store. Due dates for Spring and Fall session textbook orders are 8 weeks prior to the start of classes for the following semester. The due date for Summer session textbook orders is 6 weeks prior to the start of instruction. Department Heads will be notified of faculty members not complying with this directive.

Textbook orders placed by due dates also allows the store to determine which books can be re-purchased from students at the end of the semester. Buying back textbooks benefits the students and makes available cheaper books fore the following semester.

Effective with the date of this policy, additional shipping costs for textbook orders that are submitted late will be billed to the department.
