State Governance
The Secretary of Higher Education, appointed by the Governor, oversees New Mexico's higher education. The Secretary's cabinet approves the operating budget and capital outlay requests for the College. The College and UNM maintain autonomy over academic and administrative matters.
UNM–Los Alamos Advisory Board
The UNM–Los Alamos Advisory Board serves as an advisory body to the College and to the UNM Board of Regents. Although it approves the budget and can call for elections, policies and procedure in regard to the administration and educational programs and services at the College are set by UNM, and UNM guidelines are followed.
Executive Director of the College
The Executive Director of the College is appointed by the University of New Mexico's Vice President for Academic Affairs and reports to that office. Responsibilities of the Executive Director of the College include
Providing leadership, direction, and planning for the College
Representing the College at local, state, and national levels
Working with the Advisory Board
Serving as the chief liaison between the College and UNM Main Campus
Establishing educational and administrative policies, procedures, and guidelines
Working with the legislature and the Commission on Higher Education
Maintaining and managing effective financial, physical, and human resources to support the College's
mission and goals
