A variety of scholarships are available to UNM-Los Alamos students. Please print out and complete the appropriate form for the scholarship(s) you are pursuing. 

General Scholarships

There are several scholarships available to UNM-LA students. Please click here to see the complete listing and requirements for consideration. Your scholarship application packet must include:

  • A complete a General Scholarship application.
  • A letter of intent to the Scholarship Committee specifying which scholarships they wish to be considered for and how the scholarship will help them achieve their goals
  • An unofficial transcript.

Incomplete packets will not be considered. Application deadline for Fall Semester is April 1, and for Spring Semester is January 1. Submit complete packets to the Financial Aid Office.

Bridge to Success Scholarship

This scholarship is available to incoming freshman who have just graduated from High School or completed their GED.  Students must have a 2.5 GPA or a 530 GED score, be enrolled full time, and be New Mexico residents. This scholarship covers tuition only for one semester and is non-renewable.
Students must complete a Bridge to Success application with a copy of their high school or GED transcript. Deadline for Fall is June 30, and for Spring is November 30. Submit complete packets to the Financial Aid Office.

UNM Transfer Scholarship (For students transferring to UNM)
Please make sure you read the document carefully and submit any other requested documentation with the application for consideration by the deadline - May 25 for the Fall 2012 semester.

External Scholarships

Applied Technologies Native American Scholarship Program
The scholarship program is funded by the Office of Diversity Programs, DOE/NNSA. The UNM-LA Native American Scholarship Program provides funds to pay for tuition, housing, books and fees for students enrolled in the Associate of Applied Science degree in Applied Technologies at UNM-LA.

Los Alamos Employees’ Scholarship Fund
Los Alamos National Laboratory and its employees, retirees, and contractors partnered with the LANL Foundation to create the Los Alamos Employees’ Scholarship Fund (LAESF). The Fund’s goal is to provide scholarships that support the students of seven-county area of Northern New Mexico (Los Alamos, Mora, Rio Arriba, San Miguel, Sandoval, Santa Fe, and Taos) who are pursuing undergraduate degrees in fields that will serve the needs of the region. Awards are based on academic performance (academic rigor, GPA, and standardized test scores), leadership potential (extracurricular and community service activities), critical thinking skills, and career goals (relevant to LANL or local community needs). Financial need, diversity, and regional representation are integral components of the selections process.

LANL Foundation Returning Student Scholarship Fund
The LANL Foundation, through the Los Alamos Employees Scholarship Fund (LAESF), has established a new Regional College/Returning Student Scholarship fund. This fund awards scholarships to motivated students returning to a formal education after a hiatus for other pursuits. These scholarship candidates may have left formal education for business, the military, or other reasons, possibly for an extended period, and are now seeking to expand their opportunities with a certificate or a two-year degree through a program in the regional area. Applicants must be a resident of the seven-county area of Northern New Mexico (Los Alamos, Mora, Rio Arriba, San Miguel, Sandoval, Santa Fe, and Taos).  Applications must be submitted by December 15, 2011 for January, 2012 award or June 15, 2012 for July, 2012 award.

Merrick Engineering Scholarship Program
The Merrick Engineering Scholarship Program is funded by Merrick & Company, an employee-owned, multidisciplinary professional services firm specializing in the energy, security, life sciences, and infrastructure markets. The scholarship provides funds to pay tuition and books for students enrolled at UNM-LA and pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or civil/structural engineering. Recipients of this scholarship may receive an annual paid, summer internship at a Merrick & Company office.
