Introductory Studies Courses

Entering freshmen whose ACT/SAT scores or UNM-Los Alamos placement exam scores indicate a need for college preparatory course work, or entering freshmen with deficiencies in admission requirements, may be required to take Introductory Studies courses before entering their individual programs.

These courses include:

  • IS-Math 010: Pre-Algebra
  • IS-Math 100: Algebraic Problem Solving
  • IS -English 010: English Fundamentals
  • IS-English 020: Reading I
  • IS-English 100: Essay Writing (Standard English)
  • IS-English 021: Reading II
  • IS-NS 100: Natural Science

Advisors will help students determine in which courses they should enroll. General university credit will be granted for these skills courses, but credit will not be accepted towards UNM-Los Alamos associate degree programs or towards UNM degree programs.
