Upcoming Season News
We are happy to announce that this coming season we will be back at St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church for our subscription performances in Albuquerque. We have enjoyed this past season at St. Andrew Presbyterian, but are excited to be returning to St. Michael's.
We regret that Hovey Dean Corbin will be unable to perform with us this coming year but performing in his place will be Seth Hartwell, who is currently pursuing a Master of Music degree in vocal performance at UNM, where he studies with Professor Leslie Umphrey. A lyric tenor originally from McClelland, Iowa, Seth has performed under such conductors as Weston Noble, Philip Brunelle, and Helmuth Rilling, and is making his Santa Fe Opera debut this season in Benjamin Britten's Billy Budd. Seth holds a bachelor's degree in music education from Valparaiso University and has taught both choir and band at the middle school and high school levels. In addition to working as a freelance singer throughout New Mexico, Seth also plays guitar and clarinet.
The Música Antigua Youth Consort performed a recital on March 16 in the Center for the Arts at the University of New Mexico. The students played a variety of pieces from the Renaissance, including works by Heinrich Isaac, Josquin des Prés, Michael Praetorius and Adriano Banchieri. Members of the ensemble this year were Molly Kearny, Albert Liu, Alison Stevens and Will Vining. Molly, a senior at Valley High School, was president of the Valley Orchestra this year and also played cello in the Albuquerque Youth Orchestra. Albert is a junior at Albuquerque Academy, where he plays flute in the Academy band; he is also a member of the Albuquerque Youth Symphony. Alison is also a junior at the Academy; she plays viola in the orchestra and the school's Celtic Band, as well as the Albuquerque Youth Symphony. Will's primary instrument is the clarinet; he graduated from Albuquerque High School this spring, and this was his third year in the Consort.
The group also performed for the string students and their directors during a presentation by Música Antigua at the 2008 New Mexico All-State Convention.
